Context

Procedural knowledge is not the same as operational judgment.

Air-traffic-adjacent work depends on maintaining an accurate picture while conditions shift. A learner may know the checklist and still struggle when radio traffic, weather, timing, and runway conditions do not line up neatly with a textbook example.

Problem

Situational judgment cannot be taught by information delivery alone.

The design challenge was to create an experience where the learner had to notice signals, interpret the situation, choose a response, and see why that decision mattered. The goal was not to make a prettier course. It was to create meaningful practice.

Decision

I designed the experience around an operational picture rather than a sequence of content screens. Information is introduced when it becomes useful to the decision. Feedback explains the consequence and reasoning behind the choice rather than simply marking an answer right or wrong.

Visual proof

Every screen should prove a design decision.

The live experience demonstrates how context remains present while the learner acts. That reduces the artificial memory burden of traditional slide-to-question patterns and keeps attention on interpreting the situation.

Design principle: practice should resemble the cognitive demand of the real task. If the real job requires interpretation under uncertainty, the learning experience should too.

Evidence

This is an independent portfolio build, so I do not present fabricated performance metrics. The evidence is the functioning experience itself: the decision structure, the feedback model, the responsive interface, and the way context is carried through the interaction.

Reflection

Good interaction design starts with the decision, not the interaction type.

The most important question was never whether to use a branching scenario, tabs, cards, or animation. It was: what does the learner need to notice and decide, and what feedback would actually improve that judgment?
